I've not tried to install GW Messenger on SLES9 / OES1, so I'm probably
not going to be of much help. (Note - Novell support doesn't monitor
these forums officially, and the sysops are mostly non-Novell
volunteers).

Is the SLES9 server up to date on patches? Is this an OES1 server?
Is eDirectory installed?

Sorry for the slow responses. As far as I can tell, GW Messenger was
never supported on SLES9?

Can you set up a different server for GW Messenger? (My experience
with it has been on NetWare).

OK, I'll see what I can find out, but I've not tried to do this on
SLES9 myself, and I don't have a SLES9 box to test with.

I did find some old patch readme files that mention a problem with GW
Messenger extending schema on Linux, that the installation would stop
if there was a problem extending the schema. The patch was supposed to
fix it. This was an older GW Messenger patch (2.02). Are you using
2.04 GW Messenger software?

Sorry for slow replies - busy with customer calls and projects.

It sounds in general that you may have an LDAP issue. Can you check
various LDAP settings? Are you comfortable that LDAP is working at all on
the server?

I will try - but I don't even have a GW Messenger setup using Linux
yet. I'll try installing it on the SLES10 GW system I have for testing
if I have time next week.

I suggest checking the log files for some indication of a login or
startup failure with GW Messenger on your server.
