Dear All,

Today, we have suddenly started having problems relaying our outbound
messages from the GWIA to Mailsweeper (our external relay) we are recieveing
the following error on the GWIA:

Detected error on SMTP command
and then..
DMN: Send Failure: 450 Host down ([ip address])

Any ideas? im getting desperate now...!

Thanks,
Michael Taylor

Michael,

Can you ping to that IP Address from your GWIA server?

Cheers,

Michel

Michael,

I thought I wrote something more. Sorry about that ;-)

Can you also telnet to the mailsweeper and GWIA? I don't think it's a
name resolution problem but it might be a problem with communicating on
port 25 (telnet).

Did you upgrade the GWIA or the TCP stack recently?

Hey no worries, I really appreciate your help..

Unfortuntaely, I can ping and telnet to both the GWIA and Mailsweeper...

I haven't done a thing on the GroupWise server since SP7 !!! nevermind?!

Im sure I will get to the bottom of it soon enough? or at least I hope....

Thanks again,

Regards,
Michael

Hmmm,

I just had a look out our logs, and I noticed that it always mentions a
domain name and not an IP Address. What version of GroupWise are you
using? What does the /mh switch say in the gwia.cfg? Maybe the IP
Address of the /mh switch is incorrect and then I guess it could be the
same as the IP Address in your error message. This IP Address should
point to the mailsweeper.

Good luck!

Michel

Michael,

There is an NLM called tel.nlm (a google search should find it) that you can run on the GW server to see if IT can telnet to the mailsweeper server - I'd check that first.
