in addition to what Michael said, this sometimes happens when a user modification gets stuck. Try and disassociate eDir object from Groupwise object, then reassociate.

Highlight the user, then Tools, GroupWise Utilities, GW/eDir Association, Disassociate GroupWise object (or attributes or some such).
Wait, reassociate.

I'm not convinced this will do a thing if gwcheck really cannot find
this user (but I'm not convinced gwcheck was run correctly, so this is
worth a try)
