We have GW 6.5.7 running on NW 6.5.5. Single domain and single PO

For the last 3+ years I have had 25 users autosyncing their Treo 755s via a
POP connection with our mail server. No major hiccups. Suddenly yesterday it
stopped working.

I have a successful login at 11:23pm on Monday. The next attempt at 5:38am
the following day failed. Nothing has changed in the GW settings and I have
restarted the GWIA.

No problems with internal GW accounts, logging in externally works,
WebAccess works, IMAP accounts set up on the Treos work and oddly enough,
one user that has a Treo 800 is still able to connect via POP.

This has to be a coincidence because:

1. When I telnet internally to the server from a PC, I am able to get a POP
connection, but my username is not accepted. This is also what we are
getting in response to attempts from Treos and other external accounts.

+OK GroupWise POP3 server ready
user <any username except the Treo 800 user>
-ERR GroupWise Login Failed

2. The Treo 800 users username is accepted.

3. I am also unable to set up a POP account from home using Outlook Express
or my Gmail account. Both say username is not accepted.

I confirmed POP is still enabled with 20 connections in the GWIA properties
in C1.

Where to look next? Any ideas?

PO links in GWIA. Force them

Also your GWIA is local to its parent domain right? If not, naughty naughty.

I'm not sure how to "force PO links in the GWIA" Could I get a few more
details?

Also, if by "local to the parent domain" you mean located on the same server
and volume, then yes my GWIA is local.

IN the GWIA object there is a tab called PO Links (Post Office links).
Try forcing the settings

OK, I'm looking at that tab, but I don't really understand what you mean by
"forcing the settings"

I have Access Mode set to Direct Only and the UNC path is defined.

Good. So now ignore the wisdom of the elders. That's fine
Regardless the failure to authenticate implies your GWIA is having
trouble talking to the domain and or po.

so among other things set it to client/server and a specific ip address
port.

Does the GWIA actually have access to the UNC path that is there - it might
be better to change it to the IP address of the POA.

I changed to C/S and Direct and all is working now. Should it be C/S only or
is this OK?

That's fine. That's what I was trying to imply though I had guessed the
opposite - that you had C/S and needed to try direct :)

Well, C/S? only means it can't try to connect direct - since you weren't
getting a connection with direct I'm not sure it matters :) - while it's
generally accepted that users should never have direct access to the post
office, the WebAccess developers acknowledge that WebAccess can be a lot
faster if it has direct access. So leaving it direct is okay on the server
really.

Thanks all for helping me get this fixed. I still can'y figure out why it
would suddenly have stopped working after over 3 years. Oddly enough, it
seemed to still work for one random user, but not consistently.
