we are a company with about 170 pc-users and we are currently using a
linux pop email server with outlook 2000 as email client.
now we are migrating to groupwise 6.5.4 and i want to import the pst files
of my users to an groupwise archive file. i created an archive path in
groupwise, went to archive and started the migraton utility -> MAPI Error:
0x8004010F
I tested everything in a vmware session (W2k Pro SP4, Outlook 2000, GW
Client 6.5.4, winntwms from novell site)
i tried everything to reinstall, but i allways get this error.
any ideas?
thanks in advance...

I'm currently busy with a similar migration project; about 350 users to
migrate to GW6.5 ; with the PST migration utility that integrateswith the
Groupwise client we have the same problem ; Mapi error 0X800....;
As an alternative I found the GROUPWISE ARCHIVE MIGRATION ( do a search
for GWEXARC.EXE on the Novell site); This is working except that sent
items and deleted items are not transfered to the groupwise archive. still
busy on that one ... if I have a solution i keep you posted..
cheers,
Rudy

Have you guys run the wms.exe file yet? If you have Outlook already
installed it doesn't install when you install GW. But, there may be
some required MAPI files in there. I have about 750 users who I am
migrating from Exchange 5.5 to GW 6.5.4 and I use the PST import, it
works fine, except when I am not working on an English install. But,
there is a work around for that too.

If you have a non-english install of GW and you want to run the
utility, install WMS (telling it to overwrite the mapi files which are
from the installed language), install the PST import tool. Now, instead
of going to File, PST import in GW, go to the install directory and run
it from there. It will work.

By they way, even though the PST import says it will import to the
Archive, it doesn't. It will import to the active DB on the server or
the cached DB, if you are in Caching mode.

I also tried to use GWEXARCH.EXE, but here I get an error "Unable to open PST file".

Do you use this tool with the command line option?

Are there any other tools to migrate?
We want to migrate to an archive file, because we don't want to take over all the old stuff to our
online mail boxes.

But the funny thing is, that on my notebook WinXP SP2 with Outlook 2003 the pst migration tool worked great,
everything imported to my archive file.

I also tried in my vmware session now to install Outlook 2003, installed ntwms.exe following manually,
reinstalled groupwise client. -> Same error

I also tried to copy my mapi*dll files to the other machine. -> Same error.

Hi Mike,

yes I installed the ntwms.exe following over again -> Same Error.
Wich version of Outlook are you using?
I've a Notebook with WinXP SP2 and Outllook 2003 (everythin installed in German) where the pst import utility is working fine,
I also tried to copy the mapi files of this pc to the other pc. -> Same Error

I can't find a option in GW Client under File to import a pst File, I always
started the Import Utility from the installation Directory.

I did some research on this one (because i have exactly the same problem)
installed from scratch a win2000sp4 box ; updated the hardware drivers ;
installed the Novell client 4.91( not really needed,uless you need access
to your server) installed the Microsoft Messaging system (Not the one
that came with the groupwise CD, but the NTWMS.EXE (TID2955774);
restarted the workstation ; installed the groupwise client 6.5.4 ;
installed the PST import utility (setuppstimp.exe)
Ran the import from within the groupwise client(File -- import PST)
I need the import of the PST in the archive area because there are about
350 Gig of PST files to import, and I dont want to have all that old
stuff in my active mailboxes.
Another hint perhaps: If you do the import on your workstation, have a
harddisk that is FAST, or in my case, I took Giga-bit networkcards to
access a FAST Fileserver (Netware 6.5)
Hope this will help you,
cheers,

this is just an update on my previous reply.

If you see during the import,while standing in archive-mode, that folders
are coming into the on-line mode mailbox, try replacing the GWMSP132.DLL
file by the one coming from the groupwise 5.5 plug-in for outlook. ( see
TID2957502) it worked for me.....

nice trying,

Rudy

Now I reseted my vitual machine to a snapshot (only w2k sp4, zen, nwclient 4.91 is installed),
then I installed Outllook 2000;
installed NTWMS.EXE (TID2955774);
restarted the workstation ;
installed the groupwise client 6.5.4 (over ZEN with the multi1nt.aot file ... but I also tried without ZEN);

installed the PST import utility (setuppstimp.exe)
Ran import utility from within groupwise (only available when I swich language to english)
-> Same Mapi Error

Also when I ran the utility from the Installation directory.

I've no idea!

I am using it on a WinXP SP2 machine with Office XP and GW 6.5.4
client. But, I did find something interesting out. I just had to
migrate a PST for one of our managers. I got into his Outlook account
and grabbed some old e-mails out, which I didn't migrate, made a pst
file and attempted to migrated it.

It didn't work. After fiddling with it I tried resaving the pst, but
this time in 97-2002 format, which you set at PST creation in Outlook
2003. I was then able to import this pst file on my Win XPSP2 with
GW6.5.4.

So, check the version of PST file, also, I wouldn't try the pst import
on a PC with Outlook 2003. Microsoft made some changes to the MAPI
which causes errors. I h ave found it quite safe to run on again,
WinXPSP2 Outlook XP SP3 and GW 6.5.4. Also, I ran the wms.exe file from
the GW install directory, not from the TID.

I tried everything,
fresh installations of OS, with sp without sp, outlook 2000,
outlook 2003, ntwms before and after outlook and gwclient,
ntwms before gwclient - after gwclient, but I can't solve
this MAPI Error.

Now I use this tool, it's working fine for me:
Advansys Personal Outlook Migration Pack

I have seen that tool, but not used it. I didn't like the fact it put
the tool bar up there, but if you use it on only a couple of PCs for
migration you should be fine.

Also, when I used the novell migration utility, I used the wms.exe file
which comes with the GroupWise client, not the one from the TID.

I also found best results using Outlook XP on the PC, not 2003 or 2000.

But, glad you got it working.
