Novell Identity Manager is made to do this type of synchronization and it
does it very well. Check out
http://www.novell.com/documentation/idm36drivers for the LDAP driver and
http://www.novell.com/documentation/idm36 for the main product
documentation. Basically you add it to your eDirectory box and give it
credentials for OID and then changes synchronize as you specify (one-way,
two-way, certain attributes on way, other attributes the other or two-way,
manipulation in the middle for different data types, etc. etc. etc.).

Good luck.

Save yourself a lot of time, use Identity Manager. They already have an
LDAP driver that will sync changes to OID for you.

Right. You would need to ensure that your java client never dies, and
that nothing ever goes wrong with it. That's a tall order.
