I'd go hunting for network problems in this case. dsrepair does not fix
communications problems. It may appear to do so if it forces you to wait
for a period of time, during which whatever has stopped working on your
network starts working again.

One thing to note is that ping is a really small packet. Most of your
comms are going to be a lot larger than ping packets. I've seen broken
networks where data didn't get through, but ping still worked.

You should be able to go straight to SP8.
