I have a new install NW6.5 SP1 server which I have had in a test environment
while I find out how it works. and am very pleased with it, I have also put
into the network a new basic 6.5SP1 server and have copied all the user
files to it. My next step is to make this the working server by changing
login scripts so that users use the temporary one, while I upgrade the main
Dell 2500 server (which will need a fresh install as the Dos partition is
not big enough for future needs) and ensure continuity.

My real question is, can I (as with NW5*) remove DS from my test 6.5 server
and install that into the production tree as it has been running now for 5
weeks with great stability.

Any points, pitfalls greatly appreciated.

You may want to take a look at teh portlock utility. This will allow
you to resize partitions without blowing away the server.

Yes, but with Caveats.

Yes you can just run nwconfig -dsremove and then install the server
into the new tree. That will give you the server object. Then you
will need to use DSrepair to install the volumes and pools into the
tree. Then you need SDIDIAG to sort the PKI side of life and then
PKIDIag to sore the KMOs. Then we have the problem of all of the
iManager and Role based services.

Me, I would grab a NW65 SP2 CD with the Overlay pre-applied and use
that to install the server straight into your live tree. Less hastle.

Thanks for the replies, I have set up a new 6.5 server using the 6,5SP1b
overlay CD's and that went very well, although it did not put a replica on
the server and I have tried to put a replica on in C1 but the
Replica/Partitions view for that server is greyed out with no options

I have tried upgrading my NW51SP7 server with the same CD's but that is a
disaster so far as it will not boot past loading NLSLSP (see Install/Upgrade
forum)
