I am having a heck of a time adding a SLES 9 server to a Tree. I have
openslp configured and I see my partitions under the ndap.novell
service using slptool.

My tree name is 21 characters which is under the 32 maximum.

When I run:

ndsconfig add -t <tree name> -n o=<context> -a admin.novell

I get the following:
"Searching for the Tree "<treename>" in the nework. Please wait,,,
The given tree does not exist
Verify the existence of the treename using slpinfo or specify ip
address to configure"

Then ndsd stops.

I am completely clueless at this point. Also installing via ip address
does not seem to work. Someone give me some hints. Thanks!

The same Problem exists in my testing environment. I prepare to write an
Article about eDirectory, Groupwise and ZenWorks for an german Linux
Magazine, but after 3 weeks of testing, nothing work.

- iManager Mobile 2.5 i can still login, but often crash.
- ConsoleONE did not recognized the tree if i use OpenSLP, only if i use
slpausa, but i can´t login.
- Novell Client for Linux can browse for the tree, but not for context and
server. Login is not possible.
- add a new server with eDirectory did not work like the symptom specified
in the post above.

So i ask me, what i should write in my article? Until now i can only write a
few words like: eDirectory forget it, it did not work!

Sorry only a frustrated post.

Actually I solved the problem simply by upgrading to edir 8737. I was
using the base edir87 install. Try that,,,maybe it will fix your
problem. In fact I just got down adding 80,000 accounts to the replica
on the SLES server and am hammering ldap queries now.

Thank You for your answer. I will try now eDir 8.7 instead of eDir 8.8, but
the first problems occur during to download the Patch for edir 8737. Got
only a message like:
Mal-formed reply from origin server. Please try your request again.
502 Bad Gateway.

Hmm,,,,I got the patch fine. I run edir88 on NetWare----I have not run
it on SLES yet.

Thank you Steve,

but i have got the patch yesterday, over a mirror. Found them through
google.

The Installation of eDir on two different Servers in one Tree was
successfull. But the Problems to login are still existent, but only if i
try to login from a Linux Client with Novell Client for Linux and Console
ONE. When i use a Windows Workstation with Novell Client 4.9.1SP1 i can
normaly login, also i can use ConsoleONE.

I will short descripe what i have done ;-)

I have setup one SLP DA with default settings, only edit the slp.conf to
told  them to act as an DA. Then i have install eDir 8.7. Once finished and
start the NDS Demon, i tried to have a look if SLP found the service with
slptool which is successfully.

After that, i have install a second server with eDir like above, but the SLP
Demon did not act as DA. I test successfully to find the ndap service with
slptool. Also i configure successfully the NDS with ndsconfig to add the
new Server to my tree.

Then i install on a third Machine a client. I also configure there SLP and i
found successfully the ndap.novell service.

So i install the Novell Client and fire up again the machine after
Installation was succesfull (including novfs). I configure the Client as
follows:

- SLP for Name Resolution

- default for SCOPE (because i did not configure it in slp.conf, and the
standard Scope is default if unconfigured)

- DA List with IP Address of DA was automatical read from slp.conf.

But if i try to login i also get the same Errors:

- i can browse for the tree
- i can´t browse for context (No ACCESS to Tree "TREENAME")
- i get an empty list, if i browse for servers
- if i try to login with manually inserted context and server, i get the
Error Message:
Connection through Server not Possible:[TREENAME].
Error:NWCCOpenConnByName:NWE - Server not found

After that i installed Console ONE 1.3.6e and there i get an Error -748 time
out when i try to look into NDS.

Then i installed iManager Mobile, and i can login through iManager. It was
also possible to make some Operations on NDS like the creation of User, and
Partitions.

So i tried also to login directly on the servers and workstation with the
ndslogin tool on the console, and it was also possible to login on each
server and on the workstation.

So now i am very confused about this. I can login with iManager and
ndslogin, but can't login with Novell Client and Console ONE.

Kai Schmidt
