Universal Password

On page 15 (pdf version) of the Universal Password Deployment Guide, it
states:

"LDAP (standard) to NetWare 6.5 Universal, simple and NDS passwords
(or NetWare 5.1, 6 running are changed. All are synchronized
eDirectory 87.1 (sic)) even if old ones were out of sync."

According to the above, if I set, via LDAP, a user's userPassword
attribute against my NetWare 6 SP3 server running eDir 8.7.1, that it
will also set the user's simple password. Is this true?

I ask because:

- previously we have had to use an LDAP control to change the
simple password
- I was expecting to need to upgrade to NetWare 6.5 to work
around some simple password change hassles we now have
