Taking Licensing

Something keeps taking up all my lienses for my NetWare 5.1 servers
running GroupWise. I noticed that my server started doing this several
months ago. Everytime I go into GroupWise I have to go into NWAdmin and
release a bunch of licenses locked by the admin. I have to release some
of them in order for my login to authenticate to administer GroupWise.

I don't know what is taking the licensing. Last week I went and
installed the first 6.5 server at a remote location. Before this point,
they were only using NetWare 5.1. The GroupWise server is using NetWare
5.1. Now the same thing is happening. All their 5.1 licenses are being
locked by the admin accoutn. This never happened until NetWare 6.5 and
BackupExec 9 were introduced to that site.

I have tried unloading BE and GWTSA and it's still happening.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

John Jakus

Under 5.1 any one user ID will only use one user license on any given 5.1
server. It's not clear how many 5.1 servers you have, but I think you are
saying you see the Admin user using more than one 5.1 user license from one
5.1 server. If so this is a licensing problem, you'd want to have Nw51Sp6
installed, if it still happens after that delete and recreate the licenses.

There is no relationship between NW6.x and 5.1 licensing, and no reason why
adding 6.5 would affect use of 5.1 licenses. I assume you've installed
enough 6.5 user licenses to take care of users attaching to that server.

I know that the server at this locatin did not have this problem. It has
been running for 2 years with 10 seats. The only one that authenticates
to this server is the GroupWise administrator. Since the installation of
NetWare 6.5, she has to go into NWAdmin32 and release some of the admin
logins before she can actually administer GroupWise. This is a similar
problem that we have at my location. I didn't put 2 and 2 together until
we did the install at this remote location. I figured GroupWise was
doing it at our location. For all we know, it could be Backup Exec 9.0
They where both introduced at the same time. I tried unloading Backup
Exec and GWTSA and the licenses are still being taken. They are being
taking by the server itself and not a user.

Any suggestions on how to track what module might be taking the connections?

Thanks,

These are from the server to itself? IE the IP address of the Admin user is
the server's?
