Hello,

I would like to rename eDirectory 8.7.1.1 tree name with mixed versions of
NDS (Netware 4.11 and Netware 6.0.)
I read Novell support TIDs. They say that I need to change Preferred tree on
all clients and check Network printers, check login scripts,...
How can I automatically change preferred tree on client workstations ? They
are not using Zenworks. How can I automatically change printer settings
(ports and names). What will happen with NDPS printers ?
Is there also anything else I should check after rename ? What will hapen
with other Netware services - iManager, DNS, DHCP, iFolder...?

Thanks for your answer

I think the best you can do is a two step process.

Before you rename the tree, use NCIMan to create an unattend.txt file
for each version of client you use (and for each context, if
appropriate). In NCIMan in the Location Profiles page of the client
properties, remove the info in the Tree and Context fields, and
specify a Server. Increment the internal version numbers, and push
out the change.

After you rename the tree, again use NCIMan to create an unattend.txt
file for each version of client you use (and for each context, if
appropriate). In NCIMan in the Location Profiles page of the client
properties, enter the Tree name in the Tree field, and the Context, if
approrpiate, in the Context field. Increment the internal version
numbers again, and push out the change.

Or, do as TID 10021052
(http://support.novell.com/cgi-bin/search/searchtid.cgi?/10021052.htm)
says:

Using client 4.9 or later will allow for contextless login. If the
"Enable LDAP Treeless login" is used, in the configuration of the LDAP
contextless login, the preferred Tree name is not needed.

Roman,

Do you have more than one tree? If not, the Preferred Tree is pretty much irrelavent.

No we have only one tree.
But I must say that I like Donald idea very much.

Using client 4.9 or later will allow for contextless login. If the
"Enable LDAP Treeless login" is used, in the configuration of the LDAP
contextless login, the preferred Tree name is not needed.
What can I do with printers ?

Roman,

Often times, treenames are not used for printing but best check your registry to be sure ... and those can be 'regedited' via the login script as well.
