Hi,

Is there any possible way of accomplishing password sync between NDS and an
iPlanet using dirXML? In our case, the iPlanet server holds the
authoritative directory in our organization. Accounts created there (by the
Human Resources department) need to populate the Novell side of things
through the Publisher channel. The susbscriber channel will never be used.
It seems to me that a directory synchronization product like dirXML would
include this as one its most basic features. After all, what good is
directory synchronization without password sync?

Am I missing something? Anyone have a solution?

Regards,
Stan

Since passwords are kept diferently in vaious platforms (and usually kept
encrypted using dissimilar algorithms), it does not make sense to simply
"sunchronize" them (copy hashed values from side to side) using technologies
like DirXML.

That said, you can sync passwords from iPlanet (or any other connected
application/platform) to eDir if (!) you can send them unencrypted (clear
text) from iPlanet.
Synching passwords from eDir to iPlanet is not possible yet. I heard Novell
is working on extending the currently shipping Password Sync product (a
DirXML 1.1 add-on) to support additional platforms (currently it can handle
password synch to/from NT domains and Active Directory).

Hope that helps,
