Hi All,

Forgive me if this has been discussed previously. Would someone be so kind
as to point me to a TID or share their experience with receommended
settings for GWIA send/receive threads? We seem to be dropping messages
lately, and we're still at the defaults (2/4).

We're GW 6.0.3 (recently apllied) on NW 6.0.3. Single Domain, MTA, GWIA,
WebAcc, and one PO running on one box, with 21 other POs each on their own
box at other sites.

Thanks in advance.

2/4 seems very low to me. As long as your hardware can handle it (which
with Novell pretty much means anything over a Pentium 90 MHz with 256 Mb
ram) I would increase it until you don't have any problems. Personally I'd
suggest at least 10/10 or even 10/20 (which is what I run). Remember, the
threads indicates the number of simultaneous connections allowed. At my
office with 150 employees we will typically have 1 or 2 receive threads
always running. We will occasionally spike up to all 20 receive threads
(especially with the recent virus attacks). If all your receive threads are
busy, then you are at the mercy of the sending email server's
administrator--whether or not it will defer your email and for how long.

One possible reason NOT to increase very much is limited internet bandwidth.
In the extreme, if you are on a dial-up connection and have 15 simultaneous
receive threads going, you could run into timeout problems. I highly doubt
that even 20 threads would cause any trouble to, say, 640k of bandwidth.

I agree the default is low. In 6.5 as I recall they bounced them up.

Remember threads not being used don't take memory, so you are really just
saying, what's the max memory/cpu I can take.

The most annoying part is that there's a setting in the ConsoleOne
snapins that allows you to set the number of threads. However, when
you re-install the GWIA or update it, those figures are completely
ignored.

Lilith,

Your message was not posted to the official Novell news
server. While your news server might show the Novell support
newsgroups, Novell has no official connection with other news
servers, and the message you posted will probably never
propagate to the official Novell server. The SysOps only see
messages on the Novell server and for that reason,
you will probably never get a reply to your
message posted here.

I suggest you post your message directly to the official
novell news server named support-forums.novell.com. The
