Currently, the SPAM handlers operate BEFORE the rules, so if you are subscribed to mailing lists all the items received from the mailing list are also eligible for spam handling.

It would be much better if I could have all my RULES executed BEFORE the SPAM handlers.

Is this something that can be changed ?

Thanks!
Patrick

I'm not sure why you wouldn't just add the mailing list addresses to your
trust list?

No, that's the way it runs.

in e.g. the checkpoint mailing list everyone who posts on the list the mail messages are originated from the sender instead of the mailing list.  and this is far from the only mailing list that behaves like that!

so, I never know who the message comes from, but the list is always in CC, so I have rules that check for that, and in other lists it's the subject that is preceded with a specific "[pentest]" entry...  all things that can be caught in rules, but fail the GW spam tests.

By SPAM handlers are you talking about junk mail handling (junk list and
block list)? If the mailing list isn't listed in your personal junk or
block list then you've got no problems. Further you can add to the trust
list which acts like a personal whitelist.

If you're talking instead about something like Guinevere or GWAVA (or
spamassassin or . . .) which comes before the POA even, then you've got to
add the mailing lists to your whitelist--which technically isn't a GW
issue.

pretty unuseable I would say.

I still don't see the problem. If any of those users who are members of
that list send you spam and you junk/block them, then why would you want
correspondence from them just because now it's part of a mailing list?

And what exactly do you mean that these emails "fail the GW spam tests"?

Sorry, indeed: junk mail handling.
Mailing list emails do NOT originate FROM the list, but from the respecive senders, so posts to this lists always come from people I do not know, the listname is usually is CC or in TO, never in FROM.

What I want is pretty simple:  if an incoming email message triggers a rule, then I want it to automatically NOT qualify for junkmail.

I use groupwise really a lot, my mailbox contains more than 180.000 items, and a lot of them are mailing list messages, which all come into the "Junkmail" folder if I enable junkmail handling.

Thx!

One could argue the checkpoint list is also silly in its structure, but hey,
it's a free world.

I understand now. I took a quick look and your right there is no way to
specify that a CC address is allowed or not it is all based on the To
address or domain. Can you configure the mailing list to send a daily
journal, ie all messages in one email or do you like to respond alot?

a journal is only possible with one of all those mailing lists, so that's not an option.  I'll post it as an enhancement request :-)
