Hello all!

I'm planning to do a big upgrade today. I'm replacing a NW5.0 server that
is failing, but I'm doing it by simply building a new NW6.0sp3 server from
scratch. I'm not doing migration or upgrade, since I am having NDS problems
and there are only 12 users. The server is alone in a single tree, and is a
GW6.0sp2 secondary domain. After setting up the new NW6.0 server, I plan to
merge it into another tree on the LAN (I have to do this because the NW6.0
license object lives in that tree). The other tree is also a sec. domain.
Then, I plan to copy the domain & PO directories to new locations, regraft
and hopefully be back to normal.

I'm keeping the same server name, IP address and user account names. What
will change for this replacement server is the tree name, contexts, and
location of the GW6.0 directories. I know I have to reinstall the GW agents
and modify the objects to reflect the correct contexts...

Any major caveats or suggestions? I'm referring to Caledonia and Novell
Press references to help me keep everything straight. I've done a GW move
and regraft before, but never thrown a tree merge into the loop!

Thanks for any ideas!
Kelly

I presume you've done this now, but if not, there are a couple of TIDs
about moving GW to new servers/volums/trees. EG TID10010617

Thanks Barry - yes, I did this and it worked great. The only concern was
that you still have some odd "login to old tree" prompts to deal with. I'm
still not sure I know exactly how to handle them, but enough clicking around
and you get past them and can graft.

That's how it is I think. I always get the errors and just click thru
them.
