Hello,
We had a total disaster with one of my customers NW4.11 SP9 servers
holding a GW5.5.4 post office with DMS. Server crashed, and when we
bought it back up again we found we had problems with DNS and Groupwise.
The best thing about it was I found out that there had been no backup
done for 6 months!!! We managed to sort the NDS out by using the
four .old files created when we run our scheduled dsrepair jobs. We then
found that we had problems with the post office. The post office would
come up fine, but as soon as you tried to access a document stored in the
local library the server went into abend state 1. We worked out it was
corruptions with the dmsh.db file, which we restored from one of our very
old backups. This seemed to fix the problem and we were able to view the
documents. We then took a backup of the whole system with the post
office down so as there were no open files (a bit late I hear you say).
Then found out that the DMSD0001.db file was also corrupt (only 74kb).
Restored theses as well, but now if you try to open a document it opens
up blank. I've been reading up on what all the .db files do so I can see
why the docs open blank.

After all that my question is, is there anyway you can restore blob files
to a different library? Currently I am getting an error code when I try
tom import a blob into my own mailbox. The import status bar gets to 25%
then fails. I've looked up the error code and it basically says that I
am trying to import the file into a library it was not created in.

Any ideas?

No - however, you can run a GWCHECK on the PO with a contents check and
it should "orphan" the BLOBS and put them in their native format so you
can look at them, import them, whatever.
