Unable to access new Groupwise account

Was curious if anyone could help with this peculiar problem. We are
running Netware 6 and Groupwise 5.5. We recently deleted three user
accounts because they were slammed with an enormous amount of email. We
deleted only the Groupwise account, leaving the Novell client as is. We
then synchronized the domain and let GWCheck run at it's scheduled time at
night. Now when we recreate the Groupwise account using the exact same
name as before, we receive an message "user not found." We can see the
user in the Groupwise admin area but cannot access the account thru a
client. We have stopped the POA and MTA, and the restarted the MTA and
finally the POA(in that order), and then synchronized again with the
domain. We still have no luck! We can create a test user from scratch and
cannot access the user's Groupwise account, the Novell client works
properly.

Hopefully someone can point me in the correct direction!

Can you see the user in the address book from another client?

Can you send a mail to it?

Can you login now?

Are there any build ups of messages in domain or po wpc*/2 folders?
