GW 5.5.4 on a NW4.11
The OFFILES Dir is 21.8Gb for 458 users. I have files as old as 1997.
I did the GWCheck32 with the ATTCLIP option.
I do a Expire reduce for anything older than 183 days.
Those pesky files just like nestling in the crowded SCSI pool. ;-)
I did a Top Down rebuild and then the ATTCLIP option and then
Expire/Reduce again and they still seem determined to not leave.
Kinda makes ya go Hmmmm.....

Anybody know of another Method short of Peeing in the SCSI Pool :-(
P.S. I was hoping to clear it up before we Upgrade to GW 6.5 next mo.

If you have expired mail to 183, then I reckon there will be no files
in there that you will want that are older than that, so you should be
able to delete them manually.

Not a slick solution I know, but it'll do the job;-)

Great !
I confirmed by doing an Expire for 999 days, then 700, then 500 and so
on , and it did not expire any messages at all. So do you feel it is OK
to just go into each Dir and Whack any file older that the 183 day
expire limit I run each Friday?
IF there is some ramifications, what might I see?

D107 errors where a user opens a mail and can't find the attachment (or
dist list, big mail, or other things held in offiles).

To test for your self, at a quiet moment send yourself a mail with a
know sized attachment. Search offiles for a file of similar size with
the correct time stamp. Delete it. Now try opening the mail in your
mailbox.

NB health warning - this is not an approved method of reducing
offiles!!

David,

What did you do? Delete those files manually? Or some other method? I've
the same problem as you did.
