Hundreds of Duplicate Emails being sent

This thread goes back to (same NG) "Duplicate Emails coming in by the
hundreds" posted back by me awhile ago.

The same problem is still happening at this school. I have the log
files of one day where the emails keeps getting sent out over and over
and over to the same recipient.

They all have different ID's as well, so it doesn't seem like the same
message, but rather new instances.

I have the log file (~80k) if you guys want to check it out (if you
want to help) in here.

I did a reinstall of the GWIA today and I don't think that will help,
but it's a start.

There still is no Anti-Virus on this server, so I haven't seen (yet)
what would be causing a file to be held in queue waiting for a scan...

I'll wait to hear from someone.

Thanx!

So the GWIA log shows seperate message IDs, what does the MTA/POA logs
show - set to verbose? Let's see where they are getting generated.

I didn't have Verbose set, but I have it set now. The incident hasn't
occured since 1/22, so I think I'll be waiting for it to happen again.

I can post the Normal logs that I have from each, or snips from the
relevant portions, but it's up to you. It just shows the messges
being processed over and over, but with different ID's.

I'm sure Verbose will help. I changed the log settings and made it
log more info for longer periods of time.

It is important that we establish where the duplication is occuring
before we can go any further.

Ok. I have everhing in Verbose mode. Should I post back when and if
it happens again with all the necessary log files?

Thanx!

When it happens, we need to look in all the logs to see where the mail
is generated. Then a snip from that log might be helpful.

Brian,
If the duplicate emails are being sent to/from one specific user, you might
also want to check to see if it isn't being caused by something as simple as
a mail loop caused by auto-respond rules. This happened last week with one
of our clients. eg. UserA sets up an auto-forward rule to an outside
account. The outside account has reached maximum allowed size so it sends
an email back to advise the sender and on and on . . .
