Hi There,

I have a user who receives e-mail in Chinese and the characters just appear
in question marks. OS is Windows 2000 and he is using GroupWise 5.5 EP

Thanks

John.

Sounds like a simple case of needing to install the Windows languages.

Not hardly. If they arent running a pure chinese GW system, the "text"
version will always be junk, and only the HTML version will be readable.

Hmm, not sure about that. I had a user receiving Korean, and I'm sure
when we loaded the approprate fonts it displayed OK. We certainly
didn't have a different GWIA, but maybe it was something else. It was a
while ago.

Michael,

I have 10 or so users who use Japanese all the time & as long as their OS is
either the Japanese version or they have Japanese fonts installed GW works
fine for them, both reading and typing.

Japanese yes. Chinese no.

The native format (until GW 7) is a modified WP 5.1 file. These have a
fairly complete Japanese table, but no chinese table IIRC.

enable pop3 & use outlook express to download the mail. In outlook express
select the proper encoding. Another method is using a software called
Richwin which is a Chinese enabler to help read chinese character in English
OS. But it is not perfect though.
