I recently set the SMTP switch on in GWIA 5.5.2 and reduced the spamming to
customer's mail server. A few of my customer's clients are having mailed
returned with 553 SMTP errors. I'm sure this has to do with the reverse DNS
lookup feature that the SMTP switch activates. I would estimate that 99% of
mail is being received with the switch on which would indicate to me that
most of the customer's clients have their outgoing mail configurations spot
on. I've received phone calls from customer's clients asking how they
should configure their Microsoft Exchange mail server (there is also a Lotus
Notes mail server at one customers site) so that mail to my client is
accepted by the GWIA. Can anyone advise me what I information I could tell
them to assist them in configuring their server or clients software
correctly? TIA Ron
.

afaik the SMTP switch did not turn the RevDNS on (has to be done
manually under security). The GWIA is rejecting hosts with 504 that
failed RevDNS test.

No, /rejbs is the switch in gwia.cfg you'd find.

Point them to dnsreport.com if they want to fix their sites
