I'm trying to get a plain vanilla DOS machine to boot Thomas Conrad Arcnet
card with Client32 DOS.

I have the TCCARC.COM file dated 01/04/1994 which is the latest that I've
been able to find.

Everything goes well in the STARTNET.BAT file until I hit

LOAD PC32MLID.LAN

PC32MLID complains about the DOS ODI Board 1 driver being incompatible with
the 32 bit client and tells me to urge the manufacturer to update the
driver.
I'm using a Thomas-Conrad 6042 arcnet card.

Any way to get Arcnet and Client32 to get along?

Maybe generic TRXNET.COM driver from VLM client would work with your
card ? It's also rather old (01-04-96), but give it a try.

The TCCARC.COM is the latest (last) version. Here's an excerpt from my
own STARTNET.BAT from when I ran Client32 with TCC ARCNet/TCNS.

C:\NOVELL\CLIENT32\NIOS.EXE
C:\NOVELL\CLIENT32\LSL.COM
C:\NOVELL\CLIENT32\N16ODI.COM
C:\NOVELL\CLIENT32\NESL.COM
C:\NOVELL\CLIENT32\TRXNET.COM
LOAD C:\NOVELL\CLIENT32\LSLC32.NLM
LOAD C:\NOVELL\CLIENT32\PC32MLID.LAN
LOAD C:\NOVELL\CLIENT32\IPX.NLM
LOAD C:\NOVELL\CLIENT32\CLIENT32.NLM

Looks like I used Novell's generic ARCNet driver (TRXNET) instead of the
TCC specific one. Maybe give that a try.

Thanks for the help. Unfortunately the TRXNET.COM file that I had to
manually extract (which by the way, didn't expand at all) from the
TRXNET.CO_ file reboots. my PC.

The file that I have is 10k in size. Could I be messing up the EXPAND.EXE
process?

I think the NWClient disks use NWXTRACT.EXE or something of that ilk -
EXPAND.EXE sounds like the MS-DOS and Win3 expander to me. ICBW, though.

At the risk of sounding like a moron, I must state:

I've been unable to locate NWXTRACT.EXE even though Novell File Finder
indicates a bunch of hits in the client software.

I've downloaded a bunch of 'valid hit' programs but NWXTRACT.* doesn't
exist.

Ideas, anyone?

ARGGH! i've managed to find NWXTRACT on the NW 4.1 CD but now I'm having
trouble with the syntax:

2 Dir(s) 15,353,643,008 bytes free

P:\bschone\nw> nwxtract p: tccarc.co_ /t=dos

NWXtract - File Extraction and Copy Utility
Extracting the file TCCARC.CO_.
NWXTRACT-4.02-107: The master data file was not found on drive P.

Huh?

Continuing saga....

Managed to "find" a TRXNET.COM from 'somewhere'. When running it against my
NET.CFG and verifying that all parameters are set correctly, TRXNET fails to
find my TC Arcnet card even though TCCARC.COM does find it.

I think you might need to switch your NIC to compatibility mode instead of
running it in enhanced mode. Enhanced mode would allow for the "burst
mode" of the driver to operate. But the TRXNET driver, eventhough it is
generic, will nearly match the TCC driver with the card in enhanced mode.

Again: THANKS FOR ALL YOUR HELP.

That took care of the TRXNET.COM finding the card.......
Now yet ANOTHER issue: (do I have any hair left to pull out: :-) )
