Problem with new DDS3 Tapes and ArcServe 6.6

Greetings,

we've got a small Netware5-Fileserver with less than 15 Gig data ATM.
We backup on DDS3 Tapes (HP) via ArcServer 6.6 and since we had to use
new tapes (the tapes rotate till they die) we have to use 2 or even
more tapes to backup the files we formerly needed only 1 tape for.

We didn't change any option, the tapes and the drive should compress,
but it seems like they don't do with new tapes. Old tapes still work.

Maybe s.o. has an idea, would be great.

problem is fixed, the drive crashed, all old tapes have to be erased
for continued use..
