Can anyone give me some hints on what levels are good for volume
available space ?

I've got a SYS: volume that is 80% full and a manager who won't take my
word that this is OK.

What is a safe limit on free space both for SYS and other volumes ?

Thanks very much
David

For Sys, 20% free of what total space? 20% of 100M would be trouble, 20% of 1G would be
OK. 20% of 9G would be fine.

Where are print queues located?

The particular volume is over 9GB in size, although it does contain the
print queues. What I'm really looking for is guidelines for use in
general, rather than for just this particular volume.

It's sort of difficult to set guidelines -- note the default in Netware is to broadcast a
low volume space message at 10%, though this can be changed.

Also, it's more critical to keep the sys volume with available space -- running out of
space on the SYS volume is NOT something you want to have happen.

Barry,

I know it's difficult to set guidelines, but I've got a manager who
wants guidelines and won't accept my opinion on what they should be.

OK, can we try a different approach ? Does the amount of free space in
a volume affect the performance of that volume ?

Sorry to keep bugging you,

David

Hi David,

Only if the free space gets restricted, especially with the sys vol.

No -- it doesn't affect performance -- unless you are REALLY thin on space.

One thing to consider though, you might look to running purge on drives that are
relatively full.
