We are running Netware 312 on a Dell Poweredge 2300 and after posting a
query in the wrong section (sorry felton) I updated the drivers
specified and changed the startup.ncf and autoexec.ncf, but the shadow
and archive drives still continue to dismount with this error recorded
this morning:

Hi Stuart,

<G> not a big deal about the wrong posting, it's just that you'll get
better response here.

vrepair.nlm 23 May 1994 89K The latest vrepair

Looks like you have that one.

Device failure? Hmm I would low level verify from the controller level and
see if it still deactivates. If it does, then I would double-check the
cables, termination and hardware. Kind of looks like the drive is starting
or has gone south and needs replacement.

Is that covered by the Dell Diagnostics, because we ran that for a week
and it showed up no errors. If not then how do I run a low level
verify from the controller level?

Cheers

Hi Stuart,

I've not worked on a 2300, but doesn't the troubleshooting manual give that
information?

Now the Shadow drive will not mount at all. I run vrepair, which
repairs the directory errors, but as soon as I try and mount the drive
it stops with the error that mirror copies of the drive do not match.
is there an upgrade for vrepair?

Thanks

Hi Stuart,

The latest for the 3.x series is:

31 Jul 1997 vrp386.exe 57K VRP386.EXE; VREPAIR.NLM for NetWare v3.1x

When you boot the server do you get the Adaptec controller screen that gives
the option of ctrl-a for host adapter access? If you do, then I'd run the
low level verify.
