Does anyone know of a fix for the "Vrepair hates Long Name Space"
issue? As Murphy's Law would predict, ever since I added long name
space to my 3.12 server (fully patched), I've needed to use Vrepair a
lot more often. It usually insists on my removing long name space
before proceding with the repairs. I've been lucky in that the only
volume that really needs long names has been the stable one. Is there
another version (I have V3.12b) that can handle OS2.NAM? BTW, what
happens when you remove long name space from a volume that indeed has
long names on it? Do the name revert to 8.3, or does the World come to
an end?

Thanks,
Mark Chambers

Hi Mark,

The latest vrepair is: VREPAIR.NLM 91893 05-23-1994

and the latest os2.nam is: OS2.NAM 16855 07-29-1996 07:54PM

Vrepair does not default to deleting the LFN files. If it does it sounds to
me like it is corrupted and should be replaced.

>>what happens when you remove long name space from a volume

LFN support is removed off of a volume using vrepair and all files that
require LFN support are deleted so... in some aspects the world does come to
an end.

Why don't you run the config utility and post the resulting config.txt file
here WITHOUT the serial number so we can do some checking on your
files/setup.

I didn't mean to imply that Vrepair deleted the long name space, just
that it insisted that I remove long name space before it could repair
the volume in question. Here are the results of config.nlm.

Mark,
ah - if it's insisting on removing the name space, perhaps you don't
have V_OS2.NLM available? When you've loaded VREPAIR, switch back to
the console and do LOAD V_OS2 and see if it finds it...

Hi,

A quick look at the config.txt file:

1. I would run the lswap procedure on the server.exe to see if you can rem
out or delete the register memory command

2. http://www.adaptec.com/support/overview/aha2940uw.html
The above site has the latest drivers for the controller

3. If you're not using the comm ports or printer ports , you could disable
them on the motherboard and let the other devices use them

4. I would get into the ArcServe program and delete the log files since it
appears that you're getting a little short on space.

5. You should be loading the os2.nam file in the startup.ncf

6. You should be loading the Adaptec driver in the startup.ncf
