About once every 7-10 days, I get an abend or a mirror problem (always
occuring during the backup timeframe). Both of these issues also
increase redirected blocks (apparently by 1 block each time - but that's
not for certain.) (I have a total of 15 redirected blocks.)
My physical setup is this:
2 drives - duplexed on AHA2940 adapters.
Seagate Tape unit hangs off of one of the adapters along with one of the
drives.
I admit that I may have a host adapter problem, but all of my errors
come during backup time. And I don't get redirected blocks any other
time either.
My most recent issue looks like:
1:01:32 am unmirror of partition1
1:01:32 am Device Seagate ST1523ON 0252 deactivated by driver due to
device failure
1:01:32 am Volume SYS still operational despite drive deactivation
1:01:41 am Device #17 AIC-7870 Host adapter has been deactivated.
1:01:41 am Host Adapter not responding to abort.
I'm currently trying to get a new host adapter in house, but that's
going to take a couple of days.
Any other suggestions?
TIA

may be You have the same problem as I, see the message chain about
Novell-Netware 3.2 with Adaptec 2940 AU (duplexing/mirroring) above.

so if you want to have a duplexed system I guess you need Three Scsi
controllers. Add video and two nics (to segment the ethernet) and your out
of slots?

I use ISA video so as to free up a PCI slot. <G>

Or alternatively, give up on duplexing and go with RAID instead, eh?

Right, you just don't get the performance improvement out of RAID...

Well, there is that.

I'm still using 340 MB IDE! <G>
and a wonderful choice it makes for a boot drive (only)

Hmmmmmm, hmmmmmmm.... EIDE, huh? Hmmmmmm, hmmmmmmm....

I've found that laptop drives ( in abundance around here) work well ( I've
lots of 300 MB drives because of the small size )

Well, you are a sysop.
I can send some cheese from Toledo if you wish. <G>

So, when you come up with a spare 500 MHz system with 20 or so GB on it and
maybe 256 MB of RAM you want to give away, let me know! <G>

Let's see, what's that John Denver song?
o/~o/~
It's been too long! Lots to do in Toledo -- sit in the park and watch the
grass grow, stand in front of the bakery and watch the buns rise. Toledo! The
folks who gave us "No springs, honest weight!" That was the jist of the song.
LOL... yes it's true the sidewalks roll up at 8pm

Glad I didn't hear about it! It usually takes at least half an hour... then we can get
down to business. But, that's not fun this time of year.

Yeah, he's like me, he lives in the shower...

As you can see, those don't add up that fast for me. Maybe an @home
connection would help! <G>

There you go! Of course, you'd have to start putting up with good answers...
Would I notice? <g>

Hmmmmmm.... For most of the stuff I seem to be posting, probalby not! ;-)

There is that.... I have seen problem after problem after problem...
I've several servers that have been running ArcServe for years with no
problem.
