I believe they do -- I know they do for 4.x and 5x. I suspect all you need to do with
3.12/3.2 is be patched current, and then you should be able to use the drivers.

LAN drivers used to be written in assembly language (ASM). They began to be
written in C (Cspec) to improve performance and reliability. As the Intel tech
said, you should be OK with the ASM drivers for the older NetWare 3.12.

Dear Al,

Thanks for the info. I do understand that I could stay with the ASM drivers
without any problems as they are running ok now. but I would like to make
use of the later features that Intel have incorporated in the later version
of drivers that allow for a easier manner in support for load balancing etc.
Hence I needed to know the details. I also like to make sure that all
machines here are generally upgraded to the latest sets of drivers, patches,
etc in all fronts. hence the query.

Best regards,

K. Ramaswamy

Dear Barry,

If I do try & 3.12 does not support the same, what is likely problem
or error I am likely to face? Is it likely to cause an abnormal end whilst
in use? Who would be able to confirm this?

Thank you for the info in advance.

You'd get public symbol errors.

You could certainly try, per Barry's input. If it works, great! If it does
not, you will likely have to upgrade your NetWare 3.12 server to NetWare 4.x
or 5.x to take advantage of newer versions of the LAN drivers for your Intel
NIC written in C (Cspec).

Excellent! It didn't hurt to try.

According to the Intel website and the readme files, the CSpec drivers are
compatible with 3.2 and above. Presently, they're working fine for me on my
3.2 machine (using the CE100b lan drivers).

We use Intel LAN cards in all our machine & Novell 3.12 Server. I understand
from Intel that they have stopped upgrading the ASM drivers. Does NetWare
3.12 support CSpec drivers? Please find below attached the email from Intel.

Hello:

We have moved to producing CSpec drivers. If memory serves, Novell NetWare*
3.12 does not support CSpec drivers. There should be no problem staying at
the old ASM versions of the drivers.

If they are compatible with 3.2 and up then they will be compatible with 3.12 patched
current as well.
