Warning! Nov 6 Symantec AV virus definition file causes excessive Lan traffic

This is to alert you to a problem we have seen twice today already. The
Virus definition files distributed by Symantec dated 6 Nov cause the client
to request all file reads off the server - wait for it - one byte at a time
! This naturally causes extremely slow logins and general network and
(perceived) server performance. The fix is to update to the files dated 9
Nov or later. This is documented on their website :
