Hello all!

In our Lan we have Ethernet and Token on multiple segments/rings.
The servers are NT, Nw 3.2 and 4.11.

On one of the Nw 3.2 servers, initially equiped with only a T/R adapter
(ibmtrpo.lan), I added an Ethernet nic (ibmfe.lan). Now the "no ECB
available count" seems to increase contemporarily on Ethernet and T/R
randomly, only when both drivers are loaded. And more: the other servers
seem increase their Eth & T/R "No ECB" too.

In addition: selecting "Resource utilization"|"LSL packet receive
buffers"|"Server.NLM: old style ECB receive buffers" under "Monitor
screen", I've seen a value near 4,294,750,000 generally decreasing at a
rate of 10 units per second.

A Nw 4.11 server, also equiped with Eth and T/R cards and placed on the
same segment/ring of the 3.2 one, behaves normally.

Thanks in advance for your help.

I'd look for a bad ethernet card in a workstation sending out spurious
data...

Check that the maximum packet receive buffers and service processes have not
been reached. It is worth increasing both to their highest possible figure
as it does not harm and may help.

According to TIDs 2943356 and 2943472 about "Performance, tuning and
optimization", I set Maximum packet receive buffers to 1000, Minimum
packet receive buffers to 250 and Maximum service processes to 20.
After your mail I've set Maximum packet receive buffers to 2000, Minimum
packet receive buffers to 500 and Maximum service processes to 40. In
monitor screen I can see the value 483 for Packet receive buffers and 3
for Service processes. It's OK?

Thanks

So far its OK, but watch the PRBs closely...

The Eth & T/R ECBs are increased from yesterday. Now in Monitor screen I
see 563 Packet receive buffers. Have I to set Min PRB to 600?
Thanks.

No, no need to change yet but keep monitoring...
