As any file on the server, (Pentium 133 64MB of Ram running novell
3.11) is accessed and updated the creation date is modified to the same
as the modification date. This is occuring with all file types
accessed by various programs from MS OFFICE, Corel WP or etc.. I have
checked this using MS Windows 9x explorer as well as a dos prompt with
the NDIR command. Any insight on how to correct this problem would be
creatly appreciated. I may be contacted directly at
agla...@indiana.edu in case more info is needed...

For sure, that's the way MS products work - modified files are saved
as "new" files, with new creation dates.

Obviously someone didn't read the entire message. Documents created in
Corel Office Suite 7, 8 and 2000 all are acting the same way?!?! It is
not only files accessed by MS Products but any access of them is
causing the created date to be the same as the modified date.

Look, I don't use Corel Office so I can't comment on how their
products work but I'd suspect they follow the same procedure as the MS
products which means modifications are saved as a new file, which
means a new creation date. To be sure, you might want to ask Corel.

Has this always been the case or it just happened? As Dave points out this
is normal with MS products, not sure about the others you mention. Maybe
give it a try with something generic like notepad or dos edit. If it still
happens there I have no idea what the problem might be. Unfortunately 3.11
is no longer supported with new updates, so if it turns out to be a bug in
3.11 it will not be fixed. Howevere I think that is unlikely as 3.11 has
been out for something like 8 years and I'm sure someone would have noticed
this by now, if it was happening on every server.

By the way, since dates are a concern for you, consider moving from a non Y2K compliant
server OS as well.
