we are currently running MW 2.6, and I just recieved the cd for 2.7. Do I
just install 2.7 over 2.6 or what's the upgrade path?

Thanks
John

High John

you just install it over the MW 2.6. at the MW Console and the NWAgents as
well.

I would recommend unloading the MW stuff on individual servers you are
monitoring with NMA or using as a LANZ agent. Use UNNMA2 or UNNMA5 to
unload the NMA agents on the servers, 2 is for NW4.x servers and 5 is for
5.x servers. Use ULANZ to unload Lanalyzer from any server that you have it
loaded on. I found that when I did my upgrades some servers worked fine
others didn't give me all the information back. Once I unloaded the NMAs
and upgraded the servers and rebooted them, all was fine. I believe the
docs suggest unloading the NMAs on the servers as well. My 2 cents worth.

Gene,
Thanks for the 2 cents, is there a doc for this?

John,
I got part of the information from the online documentation, the other
part came from mwreadme.txt on the root of the CD.

Be careful with MW2.7 since it is an End-Of-Life product, has bugs and
therefore a Support Pack might not be released. It's good for one
adjacent (inter)network without tunnels and such exotic configurations,
but its IP Seed Router autodiscovery doesn't work. The NetExplorer
Console is also buggy.

Why is ManageWise 2.7 an End of Life product?
ZenWorks for Desktops has the desktops, the ZenWorks for Servers has
complete other functionality.
Network management is still ManageWise's type of work.

Hi,

I'd be interested to know why you referred to MW 2.7 as an
"end-of-life" product. Do you know something we should know?? I have
MW 2.6 and was thinking about upgrading. But I don't want to spend the
money if the support won't be around later.

Thanks in advance for your response.

Arjan,
According to Novells Support Lifecycle forecast ( http://support.novell.com/lifecycle/forecast.html
), Managewise 2.6 will be discontinued from 30 April 2001, with Managewise 2.7 as the replacement
product. There is no mention in the forecast of MW2.7 being discontinued.

As far as i know ZEN for servers 3 will replace the functionality of
managewise. It has the same features. There will be no version after mw2.7.

Be very careful !

Unless you unload all the NMA, LANZ and Explorer NLMs using the NCF
files provided, you WILL have license problems (you also need to unload
MWISE.NLM and SERVINST.NLM - the NCF files don't do these). TID 2927322
refers !
