I am currently evaluating several products for syncing Groupwise 6
with
Palm and PocketPC.
While syncing with Palm PDAs is supported by many 3rd party products
and
one (!) of them is working for 100%, I have trouble finding a product
for
syncing PocketPCs. I´ve searched the newsgroups and found references
for
Intellisync, Portamail, a product from Jarna and of course Outlook,
but none of these products is working ok.
Intellisync is only working when using the same language version as
the Groupwise client -> not usable in companies. Portamail,
well. With Outlook you are not able to sync Groupwise addressbooks
(yes I
know about the folder which is created by Outlook). The product from
Jarna
seems to be nice but is far too expensive.
Then there is Syncwise Enterprise from Toffa which is really nice, but
does
not e-mail sync (yet). The problem: Syncwise Enterprise syncs with the
help of a central server which is not always useful when you have
Groupwise
servers at each branch office connected over WAN links.
So please: does anyone have a product for syncing PocketPC PDAs except
the
ones mentioned above which _IS_ working?!
Regards,
Malte
I've been using PortaMail2002 for about a month and it is working
fine. I use GroupWise 6, the software has a simple interface that is
very easy to configure. The bit that I am most impressed with is the
ability to synchronize Email including the attachments. I did not
understand how the attachment synchronization worked so I contacted
there support and they were very helpful. It' s an ideal solution for
me, the contacts synchronization is fast, though there are some
restrictions regarding the fields, not every field can be mapped to
GroupWise there are just to many on the Pocket PC. I have heard some
bad reviews of Intellisync so I looked for alternatives. Most of the
others are server based products, which are not ideal for most users.
I looked at the toffa solution and even though there site says that it
synchronizes email it doesn't. Not only that but you have to install
a third party application which is not written by toffa, a SyncML
client. This complained about a missing file and the check boxes for
Email and Notes were greyed out on the installation screen.
