The first thing to do is upgrade the PDC to the same version of the
software as the BDC. This is very important. I suspect this is may be
the problem since these products are using different versions of
samsrv.dll. Since you have Netware 4.11 servers, be sure NDS4NT is
installed on all the Domain controllers in IPX only mode with frame type
manually specified.
Then make sure Force Password synch is enabled and try again (or use the
set both passwords option on the domain settings property page).
You may also want to upgrade the client on the 9x machines to the latest
version, but password synch should work with the 3.x client family.
Good Luck,

Our LAN has Netware 4.11 and NT 4 servers. Netware reports DS.NLM version
6.09, the PDC is running NDS4NT 2.0 and the BDC 2.1 (yes, according to the
add/remove programs applet its 2.1 not 2.01 ). The BDC is also running
Novell's NDS for NT client 4.60.202 - the version of the NDS for NT client
on the PDC isn't displayed. The client machines have Win95 with Netware
client 3.1.1.0 and the client for MS networks (for outlook/exchange)
I've been through all the support.novell.com pages and none of the TIDS I've
found have solved the problem (10056099, 10056099, 10014102). Here's what I
have so far:
1.) Under no circumstances can I get the netware password and domain
password to synchronize automatically. This includes setting the users
password from NWadmin on the PDC or BDC. The only way to do it is to set
the password in both User Manager and NWadmin.
2) The problem occurs in both directions - If User Manager on the (NT, PDC
or BDC) server is used to set a password, it does not synchronize with NDS.
Can anyone help?
While I don't have experience using Novell's facility for synchronizing
NDS and NT passwords, I work for a company that makes software
specifically to synchronize passwords on these and many other platforms.
If this is a serious problem for you, and you'd like to extend
synchronization, as well as other password management functions, to
these and other platforms, then have a look at P-Synch at:
Good luck!
