WinNT 4.0 SP6 (PDC and BDC), Novell Netware 4.11 with NDS for NT, and
WinNT 4.0 SP4 workstations with Novell Client 4.60.
Had previously been able to add PCs to the NT domain. Earlier this week
however, got the following error from several machines when attempting
to add them to domain via Network Neighborhood:
"The machine account for this computer either does not exist or is
inaccessible".
Event logs on the workstation, PDC and BDC show nothing unusal.
Attempted to add workstations from the PDC Server Manager. Got the
following error:
"The security account database contains an internal inconsistency".
Rebooted the PDC, but got the same errors at the PDC and workstation.
Promoted the BDC, but still got the errors. Even let things sit for 24
hours, but still got the errors.
Tried deleting and recreating netlogon.chg per article found in Deja
which refered to PSS ID Q173882. Still no help.
Tried to add a user to the domain through NWAdmin/Domain Access.
Got: "RID Creation on" Our_OU.Our_O "Failed. Function cancelled".
Followed by "The Object could not be modified. Error code 116:0x8819"
(Server connection lost?)
We're puzzled.
Try removing the machine account from the database by removing the entry
in Server Manager, changing from Domain to Workgroup, rebooting, waiting
15 minutes or so, then try re-adding the machine to the Domain from the
Workstation, and rebooting again.
You could also try adding it under a different machine name to the
domain.
As far as adding a user, sorry, I can't help you.
