Hello,

We've determined that backup and restore of these special virtual
volumes is unnecessary. We've temporarily coded to detect these
volume names and fail a backup or restore request to these locations
for Netware 5 and 6 respectively.

Is there a better way to detect a virtual NSS volume like this one?

Is it possible to create a volume of this type with a different name,
or rename one of these volume?

Or, are these volume names specially hard coded, and what we are
doing now is sufficent?

Thanks in advance!

Kris

Novell's latest APIs may provide some way to validate the
status of these volume names but the older APIs do not.
Novell's own example TSA code has both volume names
treated as a special case.

These names can not be changed as they are used by third
parties. Its not possible to say that Novell will not rename
them in the future or add additional virtual volumes if they
feel that they need to, so you may want to list then in
a configure file rather than hardcode them.
