Personally, I just studied the man page for bash, but in terms of general
bash scripting, the course guide and the O'Reilly book that covers bash
are probably the resources I'd "fall back on".

No problem, Daniel - I think a lot of people do get hung up on the
scripting (I may have mentioned before, but I learned csh/tcsh myself, so
I was pretty weak on the bash scripting objective as well).
