My understanding is that Novell is committing to support open source
development efforts (companies and projects) in order to advance Linux on
the desktop. Are they considering funding the progress in WINE and
CrossOver (and even Transgaming Technologies, perhaps)?

Since Novell is committed to converting the vast majority of in-house
desktops to Linux, they are in a wonderful position to determine which
applications would be most beneficial to have running on Linux. They
might even consider offering assistance in porting to Linux to the
companies with the most important applications.

Another concept would be to target one representative company in each
major business segment with an offer to oversee a transition at no cost.
This would again provide valuable info on the application bottlenecks
remaining.

And finally, why not PROMOTE the QT toolkit? This toolkit allows
applications to be developed that can run on essentially any platform.
Seeding that toolkit (which is in many ways better than anything from
Microsoft) would benefit the Linux platform in the longer run.

I don't think they are supporting Wine and Crossover Office directly. I
could be wrong on this. Crossover office was included in SuSE Linux
Desktop but is not a part of NLD. I think they would rather spend the
resources to make sure that Open Office is up to par with MS Office.

As far as enterprise apps. I think they are focusing on Mono so that
you can run (not port) your enterprise .NET app directly on SuSE.
