Hi,

I am running Novell 4.11 fully patched 8a, using BMEE 3. I have just
installed the new client however I cannot access any web sites, cannot
use ping, and cannot telnet. However I can use winping and can resolve
and ping as many sites as I wish. Any ideas what the problem is. I am
using the clntrust.exe latest update.

Regards

Colin.

hi Colin,

This is normal. You can't use the DOS ping, ftp, telnet etc commands
when you use the ipx/ip gateway. You will need to use some "winsock
compliant" applications, like CuteFTP, browsers etc.
The DOS executable assume that the tcpip stack is loaded on the w/s,
therefore they aren't "gateway aware".

Please read my mail carefully. Client98 v3.21 works with clntrust and
dwntrust, previous to the latest clntrust(where is the associated
dwntrust.exe?). Client version does not work with the version of
clntrust.exe and dwntrust.exe, however why are there 2 versions of
clntrust 1.2, I would have thought that the latest clntrust would have
been version 1.3. Anyway, client98 v3.3 does not work with the latest
version of clntrust. I have tested it then downgraded the client
revision and all was fine only had to copy back the old version of
clntrust.

Did you get the above. Seems like the client98 v3.30 has not been fully
tested yet!!!!

Thanks

Hi Colin

I apologize. I missed the "can't access web sites" bit, and I though you were wondering about the DOS
applications.

You have a lot of trust in whoever sets the version number! Sometimes minor changes do not produce a
changed version number.

ok, this means that you at least have one working configuration.

What we can say is that the latest clntrust.exe is not working properly with the IP gateway. The IP
gateway is a mature product, and I am not sure that anything gets developed with the IP gateway in
mind.
I will report this to Novell. Thanks for the heads-up.

Any chance of a useful answer rather than a Microsoft one. Please help.

hi Colin,

I am sorry, but I thought I did provide you with an answer: the IP
gateway is a mature product therefore the new products aren't tested for
it.
You say that the latest clntrust.exe does not work with client 3.3 and
the IP gateway, but it does work, for instance, with the same client
version and the proxy (not going though the gateway).

I thought that you had a working configuration (with the old
clntrust.exe). Am I mistaken?

hi Colin,

I got the "official answer" from Novell:

"The IP Gateway has reached end of life and because of that nothing new
is
being tested with it."

that is pretty much what I told you from the beginning.
