I am the Director of Computer Technology for a school district
outside of Rochester, NY. We are using SSL Authentication to our
BorderManager (BM) server. A student or adult launches Netscape
4.7x (our standard browser) and they are faced with a login screen.
They login fine and browse away. When they are finished there are
two different way to logout out. One is to quite their web browser
and simply wait the timeout period set in BM. This is 5 minutes for
us. If another student were to sit down at the computer before the 5
minutes was up and started up Netscape, they are on as the
previous student. The other method to logout can be found as a
TID on Novell’s site. I have summarized below:

Simply enter the following URL : http://server:1959/cmd/BM-Logout/
(replacing "server" with your BM Server's IP address)

NOTE: You will get back what looks like a BorderManager error
page, with Status: 200 and Description: You are now logged out.

This works fine but I had two questions:

1. I want to make it as easy as possible for people to logout. I
could put a bookmark in the web browser with the above URL for
logout. I could put a small html file on the desktop containing the
URL that users can double click. I could even see if I could deliver
this html file to Novell’s Application Launcher Window via
Zenworks (obviously only helpful on the Windows side not with my
Macs). Ideally I wish there was some way that when students
choose quite within Netscape it would automatically just go to this
URL, logout and then quite the browser. I am looking for help on
how to best implement the BM-logout in a very mobile school
environment.

2. The logout message you get on the screen is not very "user
friendly". In essence it generates an HTTP error message that
says you are logged out. Is there any way to have BM generate a
message to my liking? Can I customize the message seen by
users after they logout.

Thanks
David Henderson
