I know it's been awhile, but I have some bad news. Mister Bentley and
Bailey are in doggie jail for 10 days. They are being quarantined at
the FFX Animal Shelter. Here's the story:
Monday night I was rinsing my hair out since I had just dyed it. Well
I hear the dogs take off downstairs, I figured they heard something
since I had the windows open down there. then I hear this barking,
that doesnt sound like it's coming form inside the house. So I flipped
up my head, and ran downstairs. I saw that the screen had been pushed
out and Mister Bentley was stuck in the fence, like he tried to go
though it, not over it or through the open gate door. From what I'm
told, Bailey cleared the fence. So I hear these 2 women yelling for me
to "COME GET YOUR EFFING DOG!!" They were screaming at me and trying
to get Bailey away from them. When I got to them, I was trying to get
a hold of Bailey, but there were so many people in the mix. He had a
hold on the Husky's neck and I think with all 3 of us pulling at the
dogs, that's how the the wound occurred. (the dog had a chunk missing
and had to get maybe 5-6 stitches and a drain put in.) Mister Bentley
finally freed himself from the fence and came over and was jumping all
around...he had no clue what was going on. Once I get Bailey away from
them another male neighbor comes out to help us. I am only 1 person,
trying to get 2 dogs under control. So he grabbed Mr B for me while I
was putting all my weight on Bailey and bear huggin him to keep him
from getting loose again. The guy brings Mr B over and I ask him to
grab Bailey since I was starting to lose my grip. We get them in my
house and in their crates. Needless to say, 6-7 cop cars, 2
ambulances, 2 animal control vans and 1 fire truck showed up. I'm
thinking to myself, was all that necessary? Nobody died or was
seriously injured! And EVERY neighbor on the block was outside...nosey
ass people! So they took my dogs and told me to come pick them up in
10 days, which is Friday the 12th. They will determine if they are
deemed "dangerous" or not and if there will be any charges against me.
If they are found to be "dangerous" there's so much I'll have to do
inorder to keep them and not get in trouble again. But here's my
thing, I KNOW Bailey didnt go out there on attack mode. I KNOW the
screen popped out on accident, because they pushed their heads through
the blinds accidentally knocked it out. Once they tasted freedom, they
took advantage of it. I spoke with the two ladies who own the Husky
the day after and the one even said Bailey didnt come out wanting to
attack. So that leads me to believe he probably shocked the Husky and
the Husky reacted first. they also asked me if Bailey was bitten or
not. I didnt have time to inspect him because they came so fast to put
them in the vans. But the ladies told the officers as well as me that
all they want is the bill paid and they DO NOT want anything to happen
to my dogs, like them being put down. Which is fine by me, consider
that bill paid!! They gave me the bill on Tuesday evening when I went
over to speak with them. They know it was an accident and that my "Pit
Bulls" were not trying to kill/attack anyone. And what's crazy is that
this is the lady who saw me walking Bailey Friday after work and asked
me "are those boxers or pits?" And I told her American Pit Bull
Terriers and she asked if they were nice and if she could pet Bailey.
I said "Sure!" and she came over and was petting him and told me he
was a good boy and that he was really pretty. This just really sucks
that this happened and the fact that my dogs are APBT's. Even though
FFX County says they dont determine a canine dangerous based on breed,
I know they probably have ill feelings towards pit bulls. They'll see
that my dogs are not dangerous during their observation. I'm just
really stressed out right now and I miss my dogs so much. I know they
are going to wonder where their mommy is and if I abandoned them. :(
Well, I just wanted to share my misfortune with you all. Most of you
already know my dogs and have interacted with them, especially Bailey!
Bailey is one of the most laid back dogs I have seen. He is still a
baby, only 14 months! One of the cops had the nerve to tell me "well
you know ma'am, pit bulls are dog aggressive." I just looked at him
like, whatever, do you own one??
Hug all your babies and keep them close.
Angela
I'm sorry this happened to you. But I learned a long time ago not to
leave a Pit bull alone with an open window in a neighborhood full of
'idiots'.
I use that term because my Sr girl Kacie almost went 'missing' a few
years back in order to protect her from an idiot I'd had nearly a 100
times NOT to walk her mouthy mutt by my back screen door.
This is where you start and don't hesitate, don't walk, but RUN for
their lives to Westwind Dog Training and Karen Peak in Woodbridge,
Virginia. http://www.westwinddogtraining.com And see if she's
available to Temperament test your boys, and then you need to find a
lawyer to help you fight this, because having experience with FFX,
your dogs will likely be deemed Dangerous with this one act and
they'll require them to be euthenized. :(
As for what the officer said to you, you as an owner of APBTs do need
to realize that for the most part, he's right. I know, I know, but
it's what makes them Pit bulls and it's what gives them character. It
is also part of their genetic makeup, so yes, most are predisposed to
animal aggression.
Thank you for taking responsibility and handling the Husky's vet
bill. KUDOS to you!! What you need to know now is that is in NO WAY
an admission of any wrong doing, unless you repeatedly apologized to
the woman, it's just taking responsibility for your dog's actions and
your temporary lack in judgement. :( *plz don't see this as a mean
statement, it's not meant that way.*
The bigger problem here is this. It's the neighborhoods word against
yours, regardless of what the ladies have said so far. The media can
and will, if given the opportunity, to sensationalize this event. And
since you were no where around when they 'busted out to
attack' (sarcasm noted) those people and the dog(s), it is how it's
going to be played out in the Newspaper. Have you been contacted by
the Media about the story yet? What has the Police Department said to
you so far? Do you know if there is a story pending printing? Has
the Husky owner been contacted by the media yet? I'd be prepared for
a horrid Pit bull attack story in the local paper and then you need to
work to squash it!!
Where are Mr. B and Bailey with their Obedience Training? Are they
where they can take the CGC test yet? I'd begin working with Karen
immediately if you can afford it, because she's a huge Pit advocate
and FFX Co listens to her!
Good luck and ((((hugs))))) and pos-vibes go out to Mr. B and
Bailey!!!

Ethan - Mr B ended up getting unstuck. So because he was in the mix,
they took him too.

Yeah, I am pretty sure ALL dog bites are quarantined for a mandatory
10 days. Because I went to the shelter yesterday to see them and I saw
all types of dogs with the word BITE in red on the paper next to the
their pics, boxers, cocker spaniels, my 2 dogs and some little ankle
biter dogs. My dogs are doing fine and they said that they have been
doing well. I just had to see them and have them see me, so they know
I am still here.
I live in Little Rocky Run, which is over 28 across the street from
the multiplex. Of course I remember your blues! Those lil cuties!
Thanks Tony!
