My problem: The negative Image of the Pit Bull Breed.
Solution: Inform, teach, and repeat
I just dont like the fact that you cannot walk your dog down the
street on a leash, without striking fear into anyone that is outside
on the block. You mention pit bull to someone who has heard of
attacks, there mouth drops and they say "a pit bull... OMG? is he/she
mean...? Im just like whateva
I dont know really what other solutions there may be to protecting
this breed. In a nearby city they actually banned the breed! I hope it
doesn't come our way. If so there will most definitely be some protest
to the law.
My four pit bulls are the sweetest animals ive known. Great with kids,
babies, and adults, even other dogs, unless they pose a threat to
their owner.
So what i am asking is if any of you have any ideas in how this
problem could be reduced... because i think with the world we live in
today and with people and there unopen minds will always hold a
grudge.
Any ideas or possible solutions would be great! thank you.

Responsible ownership is key. Knowing yourself and knowing APBT
traits is essential when owning the breed--to meet your dogs needs and
to avoid any potential problems. You could discuss socialization,
training and the traits APBTs were originally bred for. Yes, they
were bred to be agressive toward other dogs, but they were also bred
for extreme loyalty. Human Aggressive APBTs were often culled,
therefore not allowed to pass on those negative traits.
Other topics can include:
-History and heritage of the APBT
-Dogfighting and dogfighters (the selection process, rules for pit
fights)
-Understanding the APBT (Gameness, Power & Strength, Agression toward
other dogs)
-Factors involved with owning an APBT (knowing yourself, situation,
APBT)
-Are you suitable to own the breed
-Socialization
-Training, etc.
