Hey there,

Last year i participated in Alexandria Plays by filling out forms for my local playgrounds. I'd like to entertain the idea of using that same idea for US parks, rivers, lakes etc.

My group MappingDC is participating in this conference http://openglobe.github.io/myamerica-devsummit/

But we're figuring out how. So far it's taking the form of a mapping party / mapathon.

https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Mapathon/US_Spring_Mapathon_2015

My idea is to crowdsource the attributes of parks as you'all did with playgrounds. Then get this data into OSM so various nature related web maps can take advantage of OSM data.

So can someone share how that happened. I'm more interested in the survey part than the actual website.

thanks,
Brian

Brian - This sounds awesome!

I'd highly recommend you connect with Preston Rhea about this.  He was at our last hackathon and saw your presentation to the group.  Since you're talking about something on the national level, maybe this could be something that could be in conjunction with other brigades across the country.  So, Preston would be the man to connect to since he's with Code for America.

Brian,

In terms of the survey, it was created by using data the Alexandria Plays gathered via a series of focus groups of parents and children. It was part of a large-scale assessment.

You can view the details here of it here: http://www.actionalexandria.org/project-play

I am sure you probably can't devote those kinds of resources to this project, so I would look for lists of park features and amenities via the park agencies and I'm sure they have survey people about what amenities they like to see in parks.
