Google is starting to roll out Magic Editor features to additional phones, 9to5Google is reporting. It's unclear how many different devices already have access to the tool or how long the rollout will take, but Google said last month that it would bring Magic Editor features to additional devices in the ensuing weeks, so the timing makes sense.

Magic Editor launched alongside the Pixel 8 lineup last year. The feature lets you erase parts of a photo, as well as move and resize images on the fly. You can also use it to edit and enhance videos. Magic Editor is powered by AI, and Google has suggested that it'll add more features to Magic Editor over time as AI processing improves.

In addition to Magic Editor rolling out to more phones, Google is also making a host of AI tools available for free to its Google Photos users. The tools, including a Magic Eraser for easily removing people or items in a photo, Unblur for clarifying blurry images, and "Color pop" to make a photo shine, will be available in Google Photos for Android and iOS.

The Google Photos tools -- 10 in total -- were previously available in both versions of Google Photos, but required a Google One subscription for users to access them. By making them available for free, Google is making them easier to access. There is still a small catch, though: the Magic Editor freebie is limited to 10 edited photos per month. After that, you will need to fork over the base amount of $2 per month to sign up for Google One.

So, how can you get access to the latest Google Photos editing features? In the case of the Magic Editor rollout, you'll need to keep an eye on your device. Google hasn't provided an exact timeframe, but considering some users have it already, it may be a good idea to open your Google Photos app and see if you do, too.

I became an expert at booking plane tickets during lunch breaks, hand feeding rays, swimming with baby sharks at sunrise but most importantly - inflating my flamingo in the most extreme conditions and letting him see the world with me.

I want to be able to zoom with my mouse instead of panning when i scroll with my mouse. I went to preferences and tools and clicked on "use mouse wheel to zoom" but it still wants to pan. I know I can do it when i hit the option key but I would prefer not to..... I have the latest OS Monterey with the latest Affinity photo

Just about anything with a real scroll wheel is better for this than any of Apple's devices that use a touch surface for it. My wife uses a Logitech M535 wireless mouse with her Mac & it works very well. It is also often available at a discount, uses a single AA battery that lasts at least 6 months, & even has a tilt-wheel function to enable side-to-side scrolling.

I assumed you did when you mentioned a vertical mouse, but they are not cheap so I suggested the M535, which is widely available in the US for $20 to $25, including in some of the big box bricks & mortar superstores like Walmart so it could easily be returned without the need to ship it back if it isn't liked.

Regardless, I suggested the M535 in part because it is widely available in the US from stores with a local physical presence so returning it if isn't liked is very easy to do. I do not know about the other brands or models.

That was just a quick example link to show that there are a bunch of such mices. - I've bought my ISY from a big German computer store chain instead, so returning is no issue. Though returning something bought from Amazon or other online stores is easy to do too, in case you don't like it or it doesn't work as expected etc.

i'm a new affinity/mac user after 25 years with adobe/pc. the magic mouse has a ton of benefits i'm enjoying (after i added a couple of sticky grippy handles to the sides) and i found i could zoom using it with designer. tonight in photo, i cannot make it work. why does zoom with the magic mouse work in one affinity program and not another?

It's 2024 and I have the exact same problem. I click "use mouse wheel to zoom", but I can only do it while clicking ALT at the same time. This is quite annoying. I have a Magic Mouse 2. I used the mouse wheel to zoom in Photoshop. Now my muscle memory is making me do it, and then do it again with the ALT key. Any fix yet?
