I've finally got round to wearing my nottinghack lab coat today, i added the obligatory propelling pencil and ballpoint pen to the pen pocket, but it still didn't feel complete..... i know what it's missing:

A Lab rat, the ultimate lab coat accessory :)

The pockets are just the right size for half a kilo of fancy rat,  his name is Chocolate by the way.... i didn't choose his name, he's a rescue rat, but i already have a dog called Toffee, so when Chocolate and his brother Caramel came up for adoption, i couldn't resist.

Cool, so that's 2 other rat people at nottinghack... any others hiding their love for these amazing little animals :)

Here's a photo of both of my rats.
I've had them 2 weeks now, they are about a year old, bought as xmas presents for kids who lost interest by easter, so they've not been handled much for around 5 months, i could hardly hold them for a minute at first they were so skittish, but they are gaining confidence every day,
i've had a little bruxing from both of them when i was stroking them, but not seen them boggle yet (rat owners will know those terms.... bruxing is when they move their jaws side to side grinding their teeth together, a sign they are happy (it's also how they sharpen their teeth) and boggling is when they brux so hard their eyes look like they are trying to pop out their sockets.... their eyeballs move in and out rapidly, freaky the first time you ever see it, it happens because the muscles that work their jaw runs behind their eyes)

When i took Chocolate out of my lab coat pocket after taking the picture, i found he'd left a couple of turds behind, rat owners usually call them ratty raisins, tho i guess in this case they were Chocolate raisins.... so if i ever offer you some chocolate raisins from my lab coat pocket... :)

I'm a ratkeeper too: currently I have "Rascal", about 2 years old and
the last remaining of the three "Wild Boys" who all never became
"tame". Rescued from an animal hoarder, out of a group of 10 brothers,
they had very little human contact for their first 5 months and they
remained a truly naughty gang! These three were so different from all
the other very sociable rats we've had that we decided to leave them
be and see if they seek out human contact which they never did!
Annoying and frustrating for us at times but I think it is good also
to allow them to retain this distance from humans.

Sherlock is pretty much a law unto himself, he takes after his departed brothers Watson and Moriarty than his spiritual sister Samus (my first fuzzbutt).

Oddly enough, as I'll be working full time in an office come January, I'm considering moving to having a bearded dragon as a pet. They're a similar amount of care to ratties, but are much more ok on their own. Also losing ratties every few years is getting a little much.

That said, ratties are the best pets for evil geniuses! Samus was always trying to steal bits of my cosplays to use as a bed.
