Has anyone reading this ever worked with plastic canvas, also know as "granny grating"? What exactly is it made out of? Polystyrene cement won't touch it. Superglue won't hold it either. I imagine it must be nightmarish to paint for those same reasons, but I know that it can be glued and painted because I keep seeing photos of it being used in other people's projects. Google is letting me down here, so I'm hoping one of you lovely people might have some first-hand experience...

Hot glue holds it down rather nicely, from what I remember.

But it's been yoinks since I've played with it.

If you want to fix needlepoint mesh to something you could do worse
than try sewing it down! Depends on your project of course -- staples
will work and since it is porous, any glues/resins that will flow
through the holes and bond well to themselves and the base material
will do the trick too.
