Saw these in Lidl today, should we go and get some for electronics etc. use?

In truth they look cheap and nasty. The lights are battery powered which is a negative to me.

I don't deny we need better/more stuff for electronics I don't think this stuff is robust enough and will end up in land fill :( poor planet.

I'd rather spend money on a couple of pro level magnifier lights.

I have bought one for myself, and set it up as an example in the studio.

Please comment, anyone that sees it.

Plus points:

Better base (takes a solder sponge) than the ones we already have, can be
screwed to a larger worktop base for additional stability.

The lighting is less bad than I thought it would be - AAA batteries
should last as long as people switch the light off after use.

Changing the support post for a longer piece of 6mm rod, and spreading
the soldering iron spring and the stand apart on a piece of worktop (i.e.
hacking them) will result in useful tools.

Only 4.99, in stock locally.

Minus:

AAA batteries!!

Nasty blue-ish 'white' LED illumination.

Grips are just crocodile clips like the handygrips we already have, and
will be just as bad if people continue to remove then and 'lose' them
rather than keeping the bits together.

OK, they don't look that great in a photo. I'll admit that.

Having handled one and had a play, for the money they are good value. A bit of modding helps (longer stem for tall people, wider base to keep them stable) but the actual lens is quite good and the the lights work pretty well at getting the photons to bounce through the lens (rechargeable AAA test I think - we've got oodles of chargers, NiMH rechargables are recyclable and available in pound shops  but we NEVER use them for some reason).

I'm having issues with reading part numbers from small components and for that, these will help.
