Dear Hackers
As you know I have recently moved to Bristol, though I will still be
VERY involved with the Hackspace! In September 2011 I purchased a
laser cutter that many of you will have seen in the workshop at the
Hackspace.
I charge for inductions and time on the laser. As well as selling (at
near cost) ply, MDF and acrylic to cut with it. In order to be allowed
to use the laser you need a basic induction. These inductions cost £20
and last about 30 minutes. On these inductions I introduce you to the
safety features and basic operation of the laser cutter and opening
files and exporting them as an etch or a cut.
If you have been inducted you can use the laser for about £1 for 10
minutes. That's minutes using the equipment NOT just cutting time.
This is still very cheap!
There is ply and MDF and acrylic available cut to size and you should
pay at least the guide price on this. The last lot I purchased cost me
over £70 and came from my pocket not from that of the Hackspace so
please do try and help me recoup this cost (I never have so far
primarily because I over purchased on MDF and over used the ply
myself).
On Sunday 11th March 2012 I will be running inductions all through the
day. If you would like an induction please email a reply stating the
time you'd like. It's first come first served. I will also try and run
inductions on a week night in the near future.
Are YOU an experienced user of the laser cutter? Feel you could run
inductions? I'd be happy to let someone else provide induction for a
50/50 split with £10 returning to the pot and £10 for the inductor.
Let me know if you are interested.
Any questions email me direct if you like!
See you soon
Dominic
