Ayup Wendy.
Is the foot pedal detachable?
If it is, remove the foot pedal, switch on the machine then see if it is sewing continuously. If you cannot remove the foot pedal, then dismantle it again, and try removing the wires from the pedal component (potentiometer, variable resistor?). It will probably be 2 or 3 wires. Make sure those wires are not shorting, and switch the machine on. If the machine is not sewing continuously, then the problem lies with the foot pedal. Otherwise the problem is at the sewing machine end and could be due to a worn cable where the wires inside are no longer insulated from each other. Or it could be something else entirely. Try that and report back. :)

Hi

I wondered if anyone could give me some advise?

My home sewing machine, thinks that the foot pedal is being pressed and is sewing continuously when the power is on.

I have took the foot pedal apart and checked it on a very basic level and do not know what to do now as i have little money to actually pay for it to be fixed and it is very old so I'm not sure if it is worth it or a complete waste of money.
its make is Frister and Rossman cub 3.

Does anyone have any good suggestions of what i can try and do to find the problem or how to fix it?

thanks

Wendy

Just as a safety note, the cable to the foot pedal probably carries a low voltage signal (12v maybe?), however it MIGHT be 240V mains power!  Just be careful, and make sure it's not plugged in when you're working on it.  Better safe than sorry!

I think the foot pedal probably is mains (many standard replacement
and retro-fit pedals are) but should be easy enough to fix. Bring it
in and we can have a go at fixing it.

Thanks guys for response.

I can't detach the foot completely as a couple of the wires are soldered together in the machine connection. that goes into the machine.

i've removed all the wires and checked them, can see them shorting, one could do with some electrical tape on it, but i pulled its 'sock' up.

It stopped running when i removed the wire and then tried it, so its prob one of the 'tings' that you mentioned in the foot.

You might consider giving it to your local women's shelter? I bought a really useful old Singer at Dr. Barnardos in Loughbrough a few years ago. Still using it but will donate it soon.
